Clachan Bridge over the Atlantic Isle of Seil, Argyll

Description

Clachan Bridge connects the isle of Seil with the mainland where the Atlantic ocean separates the island from the mainland by a small distance.

The bridge was originally designed by John Stevenson of Oban and was built between 1792 and 1793

The nearby Inn, Tigh an Truish Inn translates to ‘the House of the Trousers’, because following the banning of the kilt after the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, islanders would change from their kilts into trousers before crossing to the mainland.
